What I have learned in this time is clear: <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today&#8217;s industry, safety is not only ensured by correcting machines. It is ensured by correctly designing, planning and integrating the entire <strong>industrial environment<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we live with robots, AGVs, software, AI, autonomous systems and workers interacting continuously. In this context, continuing to think that safety depends only on &#8220;fixing a machine&#8221; is insufficient and risky. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why I advocate a preventive, cross-cutting approach aligned with the <strong>new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boe.es\/buscar\/doc.php?id=DOUE-L-2023-80916\">European Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023\/1230<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the current challenges in machine and industrial environment safety?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reality I see on the shop floor almost every week shows that the problems come not only from technology, but from a <strong>lack of global vision<\/strong>. Some common examples: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New machines with <strong>CE marking<\/strong>, but with entrapment or unsafe access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrations that turn the user into a <strong>manufacturer<\/strong> without the company being aware of it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintenance modifications that end up being <strong>substantial modifications<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Statements of incorporation that shift responsibilities to the end user<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The environment is more complex than ever: people, robots, AGVs and software.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today we are no longer talking about one or two isolated machines. We are talking about environments where: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People coexist with autonomous vehicles, cobots and industrial robots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI begins to influence machine operation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cybersecurity is as important as physical security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safety must address <strong>the entire interaction<\/strong>, not just the individual operation of a machine.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What changes with the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023\/1230?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change from directive to <strong>regulation<\/strong> means that the rules apply directly throughout the EU, without long adaptation periods. This regulation introduces three key changes that I explain in the paper: <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Software and AI are already part of the definition of machine 2.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The regulation explicitly recognizes that software can be a <strong>safety component<\/strong>, which implies new responsibilities and controls.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Cybersecurity becomes an essential requirement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Machines will <strong>also<\/strong> have to prove that they are secure <strong>against cyber-attacks<\/strong>.<br\/>This affects PLCs, industrial networks, wireless communications and control systems.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Further relevance of harmonized standards<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standards such as <strong>ISO 12100<\/strong> or <strong>EN ISO 13849-1<\/strong> are no longer &#8220;optional&#8221; in practice:<br\/>are increasingly required to demonstrate compliance.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The message is clear:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CE alone does not guarantee the actual safety of the installed machine.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why do we need to move from a corrective mindset to a preventive mindset?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Buy machine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncovering problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-validate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach generates <strong>risks, cost overruns and wasted time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I propose the opposite:<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&#8220;Let&#8217;s evaluate earlier, design earlier, prevent earlier.&#8221;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to tools such as 3D design, layouts or P&amp;IDs, we can assess risks <strong>before manufacturing<\/strong> and correct before the problem reaches the plant.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The evaluation of the human factor is essential<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At PRODEN we analyze not only the machine, but also the:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how to use it,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>who uses it,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how it is maintained,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how gender, ergonomics and work organization influence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many accidents do not occur because of technical failures but because of <strong>poorly planned human interactions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the best approach to improving safety in industrial environments?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(The integral system explained in a simple way)<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At PRODEN Group we work with an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prevencionar.com\/2025\/11\/24\/incumplimientos-en-maquinas-que-impactan-en-la-seguridad-de-las-personas-y-la-responsabilidad-de-las-empresas\/\">Integrated Machinery Safety Management System (IMSM), which ensures<\/a><\/strong> that allows us to guarantee compliance in all phases:<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Design and preventive engineering<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete functional analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safety architectures (EN ISO 13849)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design of safe accesses, protections and interlocks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Conformance and validation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Risk assessment according to <strong>ISO 12100<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementation of security measures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actual in-plant machine validation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Management of the environment and the human factor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Internal circulation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actual work (operation, adjustments, maintenance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Procedures and training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5.
