{"id":1455,"date":"2025-11-03T16:32:30","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T15:32:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/proyectos\/flour-production-line-risk-assessment-preventive-engineering\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T17:52:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T16:52:03","slug":"flour-production-line-risk-assessment-preventive-engineering","status":"publish","type":"proyectos","link":"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/proyectos\/flour-production-line-risk-assessment-preventive-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"Flour Production Line Risk Assessment &#8211; Preventive Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context of the project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study of machine safety is framed within the philosophy of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\">preventive engineering<\/a><\/strong> PRODEN&#8217;s preventive engineering philosophy, aimed at integrating safety from the early stages of industrial machinery design.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An <strong>industrial machinery manufacturer<\/strong> requested the collaboration of <strong>PRODEN Group<\/strong> to carry out a <strong>complete safety study<\/strong> in the design phase of a new <strong>production line for food flour<\/strong>, destined for a <strong>reference producer in the large-scale distribution sector<\/strong>. The objective of the project was to <strong>assess the risks arising from the use, maintenance and cleaning of the installation<\/strong>, and to establish the <strong>technical and control measures<\/strong> necessary to comply with European legislation on machinery. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Study approach and development<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PRODEN&#8217;<\/strong> s engineering team approached the project from a <strong>multidisciplinary point of view<\/strong>, integrating specialists in <strong>machinery safety, automation, regulations, electrical design and industrial processes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This combination of technical profiles made it possible to <strong>analyze the design from different perspectives<\/strong>, ensuring a coherent result from both a regulatory and operational point of view.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applying preventive engineering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\">preventive engineering<\/a><\/strong>The analysis was developed on the manufacturer&#8217;s 3D model, allowing to anticipate risks and optimize the safety architecture before manufacturing, this allowed:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identify risk areas in early design phases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate access, movements and possible interferences in virtual environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Propose safety solutions adapted to the actual geometry of the equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Applicable regulations and risk assessment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study was carried out in accordance with the <strong>essential health and safety requirements<\/strong> of <a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\"><strong>Directive 2006\/42\/EC<\/strong>,<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\">Regulation (EU) 2023\/1230<\/a> relating to machinery,Royal Decree 1215\/97<\/strong>, Regulation ( <strong>EC)<\/strong> 1215\/97 and Regulation (EC) 1215\/97. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\">Royal Decree 1215\/97<\/a><\/strong>and the <strong>applicable harmonized standards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following were analyzed:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mechanical, electrical and entrapment hazards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility during cleaning and maintenance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interaction between operators and automated elements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result was a <strong>detailed risk assessment<\/strong>, prioritized according to severity and probability of occurrence, which served as the basis for defining the required safety functions.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Preventive engineering: Technical definition and safety architecture<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the results of the analysis, the PRODEN team defined:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The required <strong>Performance Level (PL) levels<\/strong> according to EN ISO 13849-1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The appropriate <strong>connection and redundancy categories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The selection of <strong>safety PLCs, relays, drives and control elements<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>design of the electrical safety architecture<\/strong>, including wiring diagrams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work also helped to <strong>optimize the technical design<\/strong> and <strong>reduce manufacturing costs<\/strong> by defining from the outset an efficient configuration adjusted to the actual risk level.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Results of the work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The safety study allowed the manufacturer:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To have a <strong>3D model analyzed and validated<\/strong> from a safety point of view.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Comply with current European regulations<\/strong> from the design phase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To have a <strong>documented technical basis<\/strong> for CE marking of the line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce development and manufacturing costs by optimizing the electrical and control architecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result was a <strong>safe and compliant installation<\/strong>, ready for validation and subsequent manufacturing with a comprehensive approach to safety.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project on machinery safety and preventive engineering confirms how preventive engineering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/prodengroup.com\/en\/soluciones\/engineering\/\">preventive engineering<\/a><\/strong> is essential to ensure functional safety and CE conformity in complex industrial environments.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project demonstrated the value of having a <strong>multidisciplinary team specialized<\/strong> in industrial safety, capable of integrating engineering, automation and regulatory knowledge from the early design stages.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working <strong>on the manufacturer&#8217;s 3D model<\/strong> made it possible to anticipate critical decisions.
