At Proden Engineering, we have carried out an exhaustive safety study on an automated conveying equipment for an important industrial facility located in Cantabria. This project, developed in 2024, has involved a firm commitment to excellence in occupational safety and regulatory compliance in accordance with EN ISO 3691-4, Royal Decree 1215/1997 and EN ISO 12100.
Project Description
The equipment evaluated is an automated vehicle designed to transport containers within a delimited industrial area. Its driving system is based on advanced technologies that allow safe and efficient navigation within the characteristics of the facility.
Our analysis ranged from in-plant inspection to the identification and evaluation of risks associated with their modes of operation and maintenance, proposing specific corrective measures to mitigate any hazards to both personnel and facilities.
Main Areas of Intervention
- Detailed operational risk assessment: Including accidental collision, run over, load tipping, electrical hazards and possible loss of system control.
- Verification of regulatory compliance: ensuring that the equipment complies with the requirements of RD 1215/1997, the UNE-EN ISO 3691-4 standard, and the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR) established in Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery, in particular:
- RESS 1.3.7: Risks related to moving parts.
- 3.1.1: autonomous mobile machine.
- 3.3: control systems.
- : operating instructions for autonomous mobile machines.
- Safe management of traffic areas: Definition of circulation areas and speeds adapted to each space to ensure optimum safety levels.
- Review and improvement of alarm and signaling systems: Optimization of visual and acoustic devices for a clear and effective warning to workers.
- Technical and organizational proposals for safety: from signaling zones and maximum loads, to the development of specific instructions for maintenance tasks and safe vehicle operation.
