PRODEN GROUP Academy developed a LoTo training project in the construction materials sector for an industrial plant in the province of Tarragona.
This training action was also the final phase in the process of implementing the LoTo methodology in the plant, reinforcing previously defined technical and organizational criteria.
Therefore, training was considered a key element to ensure the correct application of the LoTo in daily operations and maintenance tasks.
The project was also designed to reach the entire workforce, through sessions adapted to roles, responsibilities and types of work.
As a result, active participation and the level of awareness of industrial safety increased, contributing directly to the improvement of risk control.
PRODEN GROUP offers this type of LOTO training in the building materials sector and other industrial sectors throughout Catalonia.
Energy blocking and allocation in the construction materials sector
The building materials sector usually presents scenarios with high exposure to hazardous energies during operation and maintenance.
Among other factors, the following are noteworthy:
- High-powered, continuously operating machinery
- Simultaneous presence of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic energies.
- Frequent adjustment, maintenance and troubleshooting interventions
- Constant coordination between production, maintenance and external companies
- High equipment availability requirements
For this reason, LoTo training adapted to each profile is essential to ensure safe and controlled interventions.
Objectives of the LOTO training project
The project was therefore structured to reach the entire workforce through face-to-face sessions differentiated by functions and levels of responsibility.
The main objectives were:
- Clarify legal obligations for work on machinery
- Identifying hazardous energies and isolation points
- Implement and consolidate blocking and consignment procedures.
- Adapting LOTO to the actual tasks of each position
- Create a common language between departments
This facilitated a homogeneous application of LOTO throughout the plant.
PRODEN GROUP Academy Methodology: applied and plant-oriented training
Practical approach adapted to each role
The training was developed through adapted face-to-face sessions, combining applied theory and real examples from the sector.
In addition, the following were used:
- Common practical cases in the plant
- Analysis of accidents related to deficient consignments
- Guided discussions to align technical criteria
- Checklists and standardized LoTo schemes
Thanks to this approach, the contents were immediately transferred to the real working environment.
Key contents: regulations, LOTO and safe work organization
Block 1 – Legal framework and responsibilities
- RD 1215/1997 on work equipment
- Law 31/1995 on Occupational Risk Prevention
- Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on Machinery
- Employer and employee responsibilities
- Technical standards EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 14118 and EN 60204-1
Block 2 – Energy blocking and allocation (LOTO)
- Fundamental principles of LOTO
- Identification of hazardous energies
- Locking and consignment devices
- LOTO procedure step by step
- LOTO integration in work permits
Benefits of the project for the building materials manufacturer
Extensive and tailored role-based training generated clear and measurable benefits in the plant.
Among them:
- Greater alignment with current regulations
- Increasing the level of security awareness
- Homogeneous application of LOTO
- Improved coordination between departments
- Risk reduction during interventions
This project reinforces PRODEN GROUP’s position as a reference in LOTO training and industrial safety.
PRODEN GROUP Academy: technical training for industry throughout Catalonia
Although this project was developed in Tarragona, PRODEN GROUP Academy offers LOTO training programs in the construction materials sector, machinery safety and risk assessment throughout Catalonia.
