International FAT, outsourcing

FAT for multilevel industrial equipment safety in an international environment

Construction
BERGAMO, ITALIA

A multilevel industrial equipment safety FAT project was developed in an international environment, focused on the technical validation of a process system prior to its shipment to the plant.

The work was carried out from the ENGINEERING area of PRODEN GROUP, at the manufacturer’s facilities in Italy, with coordination in English between customer, supplier and engineering.

This type of intervention is key when the equipment has a complex configuration, with interaction between different levels and systems.

Scope of FAT in multilevel industrial equipment

Verification of the system at source

The project focused on the execution of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) oriented to machine safety.

The objective was to verify that the equipment meets regulatory, functional and safety requirements prior to shipment.

In addition, this approach makes it possible to anticipate technical decisions that directly affect the implementation phase, within the industrial engineering services developed by PRODEN GROUP.

International context of the project

Technical coordination in a multinational environment

The project involved coordination between the client in Spain, the manufacturer in Italy and specialized engineering.

The work was developed in English, facilitating technical alignment in the interpretation of safety requirements.

We also managed the joint validation of technical criteria in an international industrial environment, integrating multidisciplinary teams.

Methodology of validation during FAT

Documentary review and regulatory compliance

First, the technical documentation of the equipment was reviewed.

Risk assessments according to EN ISO 12100, operating manuals and CE declaration were included.

In addition, consistency with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and associated regulations was verified.

Verification of safety and control functions

During the FAT, the equipment’s safety systems were analyzed, including:

  • emergency stop functions
  • interlocking systems
  • security control architecture
  • protection devices

This analysis was performed in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1, IEC 62061 and IEC 60204-1.

In this way, the consistency between the control design and the implemented security functions was evaluated.

Characteristics of multilevel industrial equipment

Structural and operational configuration

The equipment corresponds to an industrial process system with a multilevel metallic structure, designed to operate at different levels simultaneously.

The installation integrates process equipment, fluid conduction and auxiliary elements distributed in height.

This type of configuration introduces risks associated with accessibility, evacuation and coordination of operations.

Integration of electrical and process systems

The system incorporates electrical cabinets, transformers, pumps and auxiliary equipment integrated into a common architecture.

In addition, the energy isolation, isolation, and isolation systems were analyzed.

In this context, the correct location and accessibility of the devices is crucial for safety.

Operational safety in multilevel environments

In multilevel equipment, safety does not depend solely on the individual elements.

It depends on coordination between levels, visibility of risks and accessibility to shutdown functions.

Therefore, control design and device layout play a critical role in industrial engineering projects.

Technical value of FAT in multilevel teams

Early design validation

The execution of the FAT allowed validation of the equipment design in a phase prior to its installation.

This approach facilitates the identification of critical aspects related to access, control and security functions.

Optimization of plant implementation

This type of intervention allows:

  • anticipate design decisions
  • improve plant integration
  • reduce subsequent adjustments
  • aligning criteria between manufacturer and customer

Therefore, the FAT becomes a key tool within the ENGINEERING services of PRODEN GROUP in international projects.

Regulations applied in the security FAT

The analysis was performed in accordance with the regulatory framework applicable to machine safety, including:

This set of standards allows validation of both the design and the security architecture of the equipment.

H2 – International project from Catalonia

This project was developed in Italy, with a local client, in an industrial environment.

PRODEN GROUP participates in international FAT, machine safety and technical validation projects, integrating industrial engineering services throughout Europe.
