Adaptation to RD1215 machinery

Biochipper adaptation project according to RD 1215/1997.

BARCELONA

PRODEN GROUP has developed a project for the adaptation of a bio shredder according to RD 1215/1997 in Vic, integrating safety engineering and technical actions provided.

The project was approached from the following areas ENGINEERING and later ADEQUAensuring technical consistency and regulatory compliance throughout the process.

In addition, the adequacy of the biochipper according to RD 1215/1997 was considered taking into account the actual use of the equipment and its operating environment.

Although this action was carried out in Vic, PRODEN GROUP develops similar projects throughout Catalonia.

ENGINEERING phase: technical analysis of the bio shredder

Engineering approach applied to work teams

First of all, the project was initiated from the ENGINEERING area, with a technical and preventive approach.

For this purpose, an analysis of the bio-shredder and its context of use was carried out, considering the real working conditions.

A risk assessment was also carried out in accordance with UNE-EN ISO 12100, identifying hazards and relevant safety functions.

This analysis made it possible to verify compliance with the minimum requirements of RD 1215/1997 applicable to the equipment.

Definition of regulatory compliance criteria

Regulatory framework and technical criteria applied

Based on the technical study, adequacy criteria were defined based on reference standards.

Specifically, the following were considered:

  • RD 1215/1997on work equipment
  • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
  • UNE-EN ISO 12100, for risk assessment and risk reduction
  • UNE-EN ISO 13849-1 and 13849-2, for safety functions
  • ISO 7010, for safety signs

In this way, a clear technical basis for subsequent actions was established.

ADEQUA Phase: execution of the adaptation of the biocrusher

Technical actions implemented

Subsequently, the project advanced to the ADEQUA phase, where specific actions were carried out on the equipment.

Among others, the following interventions were carried out:

  • Integration of an emergency stop system, consistent with the existing maneuvering system
  • Incorporation of safety signage, in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Improved risk visibility during operation
  • Functional verification of the incorporated elements

These actions were carried out in a controlled manner and aligned with the previous analysis.

Methodology applied: continuity between engineering and suitability

Technical coordination and traceability of the project

One of the key aspects of the project was the continuity between the engineering phase and the retrofit phase.

Therefore, consistency was ensured between the risk analysis and the measures finally implemented.

In addition, this approach made it possible to avoid oversizing and to apply solutions proportionate to the type of equipment.

All actions were carried out with clear technical criteria and documentary traceability.

Project benefits

Improved operational safety

The project improved the safety conditions of the bio-shredder during normal operations.

This reduced the risk exposure of personnel interacting with the equipment.

Regulatory compliance

The performance provides a solid technical basis to justify compliance with RD 1215/1997.

It also facilitates the management of future inspections or regulatory reviews.

Solutions adapted to actual use

The suitability was designed taking into account the effective use of the equipment.

Therefore, priority was given to functional, comprehensible and sustainable solutions.

PRODENGROUP: engineering and adaptation of machinery in Catalonia

This project developed in Vic reflects PRODEN GROUP’s focus on safety engineering and work equipment adequacy.

Our team operates throughout Catalonia, supporting organizations in the forestry and waste management sectors.
